ABOUT US

The Research Alliance of Missouri, or “RAM”, was founded in 2003 in an effort to create a new and more beneficial relationship between Missouri businesses and universities.  The new relationship is intended to give businesses easier access to university-derived technologies and to provide opportunities for new and more collaborative research projects among Missouri universities.

To establish RAM, the Missouri Technology Corporation, a state level public-private technology partnership, and the Missouri Department of Economic Development convened the senior research officers in Missouri's eleven universities that sponsor active research and development programs.  Since that time, the members of RAM have adopted a strategic plan and have built new collaborative research initiatives among the institutions; initiated a process to streamline technology transfer from inventions in member university laboratories to commercial products; and assisted Missouri businesses in addressing technological problems through applied research.

RAM voting members, the chief research officers and technology transfer officers, now represent 13 public and private universities and the University of Missouri System.  The Missouri Departments of Economic Development and Higher Education, and the Missouri Technology Corporation serve as ex-offico, non-voting members of RAM.

In 2004, the A. T. Still University of Health Sciences, the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, and the Stowers Institute for Medical Research accepted invitations from RAM to become members of the organization.

Participation in RAM may be expanded to include additional universities and non-profit organizations with a demonstrated capability to enhance the economic development of Missouri through research and development.  Among criteria for selection of future RAM members is an annual expenditure of at least $10 million for research and development.
